Treatment Types

Heather uses a variety of treatment modalities. Her primary approaches include:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR): (10+ years of experience)
EMDR is an evidence-based neurological treatment for trauma, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and phobias. It helps to reprocess the traumatic event(s) by clearing the trauma on a physical, emotional, and cognitive level in order to cut ties between trauma reminders and the corresponding emotional reactions . After EMDR treatment, when the client is reminded of the traumatic incident, they no longer feel in danger or experience intense emotional distress. People often report less anxiety, depression, social fear, and trust and relationship issues after experiencing EMDR.

Lifespan Integration Therapy (LI):
LI is an evidence-based treatment for trauma and attachment wounds. It is a parts-based therapy similar to Internal Family Systems that promotes rapid healing in individuals who have experienced abuse and/or neglect during childhood. It's a gentle method that works on a deep neural level to change outdated patterns of responses and defenses learned as a child. Making these changes at a deep level of the body-mind resets the neural system so that it is more in line with the present.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
CBT is a treatment that focuses on the present and uses a practical, problem-solving approach to teach people how to identify and shift inaccurate thought and behavior patterns to healthier ones. In particular, CBT has been shown to be an effective treatment for depression and anxiety issues.

Mind-Body Skills :
Mind Body skills are meditation and grounding techniques that bring the brain's pre-frontal cortex online and help us to increase our ability to stay in the present and not dwell on the past or worry about the future, to manage distress from a calmer, more logical place, to balance our brain and body's chemistry and improve mental and physical health, and to tap into our intuition and live a fuller, more balanced life.
